What Are Hydrosols?

Hydrosols are one of the best skin care musts that can help hydrate, soothe, comfort, balance and tone any kind of skin.  I LOVE them and the English Lavender Hydrosol is part of my daily skin care ritual rehydrating my skin as well as providing the nourishment of Vitamin A & C (what Lavender provides).

So, what IS a hydrosol? It's the steam product from fresh plant material (it can be leaves, fruit, herbs, flowers) that go through the distillation process providing the benefit of the WHOLE PLANT.

The Process

Our farm's hydrosols come directly from a small organic family farm in the PNW. These farmers grow a variety of herbs/flowers  - lavender/rose geranium/calendula/german chamomile being just a few. In the right season, these fresh plants are harvested by hand, taken to the building on the farm that houses large copper alembic stills that have a measured amount of water.  A low heat brings the plant/water to a simmer creating the steam. That steam is captured (in the copper piping) and then bottled. All the beauty and goodness and plant benefit ends up in the large containers. This goodness is shipped to our farm where we bottle, label, package and ship to you.

Why copper? Copper is known for its anti-microbial properties and may have some preservative effect on the hydrosols.  Hydrosols distilled on copper have a sweeter aroma and are useable immediately.
